It’s no secret that I am a massive fan of pop princess Cheryl Cole, or Cheryl, as she’s now dropped the ‘Cole’ from her name (and probably just at the right time, given England’s Euro 2012 performance last night!). So much so, that when we found out that the Geordie singer’s next single off her new album A Million Lights will be the uber-catchy “Under the Sun”, we just had to tell you guys about it.
The popstar, who achieved her third No.1 single last week with the album’s debut track “Call My Name”, took to her Twitter account to inform her ‘soliders’ that she was in video rehearsal for “Under the Sun” and this was followed up by an official announcement on the star’s website. Cheryl is recording the video today and fans can expect the new song to follow in the successful footsteps of “Call My Name”, which was the biggest-selling single of 2012 so far.
“Under the Sun” is like a melodic chant that lulls you into a paradisiacal island where Cheryl will happily give literal meaning to the song’s title and sing to you under glistening rays. Okay, maybe I’m going slightly overboard, but this track is definitely one of the best on the album. A Million Lights itself, is a natural progression for Cheryl, as it guides her further along the path she had built during her last two albums – taking all those feisty lyrics and upbeat dance rhythms, but mixing them with fresh new sounds such as dub-step.
While the starlet was knocked off the top spot by Maroon 5 with their first UK No. 1 single “Payphone” and was beaten to No.1 in the album charts by Justin Bieber’s new offering (seriously?), Cheryl isn’t disappointed. She tweeted, “Wow.. What a day/week single and Album both no2 this week..:D!! Thank you so much. Love you loads *bbmhugface*#grouphug #SoldierPower
As she gears up for the release of “Under the Sun” and preparations are in full swing for her arena tour, 2012 looks set to be Cheryl’s most successful year yet. I can’t wait for her tour to hit Dublin and finally get a chance to meet the singer and ask her those burning questions! Free tonight Cheryl?
“Under the Sun” was produced by Alex Da Kid, who has worked with Nicki Minaj, Eminem and Rihanna, to name but a few and it will be released on September 10th.
