We all knew that those One Direction were doing pretty well – winning awards left right and centre and cracking the elusive American market. And now it has emerged that after selling 12million records in one short year, the five-piece X Factor alumni are slowing taking over the world.
The boys, who scooped a Brit award last year have shifted eight million singles, three million albums and one million DVDs, in just under a year. Three million of those CD sales were in the American market and the What Makes You Beautiful hit-makers were presented with a commemorative plaque by their label, Syco, for their astonishing achievements.
Their first album “Up All Night” topped the charts in 16 countries and One Direction were the first British group to debut at No.1 on the US Billboard chart.
Liam Payne, spoke on behalf of the group, saying, “We are obviously humbled by our award. We have an incredible team of people around us who have helped us achieve this. Above all we would like to thank our fans.”
The 1D boys have sold more than the Arctic Monkeys, Mumford and Sons, Kasabian and Noel Gallagher combined and though few will admit it or accept it, One Direction could go on to be bigger than The Beatles.
