Coronation Street legend, Bill Tarmey, who played Jack Duckworth in the ITV1 soap has died in Tenerife, aged 71.
The late actor’s family released a statement saying,
“The family of Bill Tarmey have confirmed that he sadly passed away this morning in Tenerife.
“They have respectfully asked the media for privacy as they grieve for a wonderful husband, father and brother.”
Tarmey will be remembered for his iconic portrayal of Jack Duckworth, a role which he played for 30 years, alongside his on-screen wife, Vera, played by Liz Dawn.
The actor bowed out of the soap in 2010, in one of the most poignant, yet beautiful scenes in Coronation Street’s history.
ITV released a statement, expressing their sadness at the news, saying,
“The cast, crew and production team at Coronation Street are devastated to hear of Bill’s death. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill’s wife and soulmate Ali and their family at this very sad time.”
Rest in Peace, Bill.
